Day 333 of 365 Day Challenge

We are staying with friends in Hillary's Bay in Perth and went for a walk along the beach front. Although I tuned the photo a little in Snapseed, the sea is pretty much as you see it here.

Day 332 of 365 Day Challenge

We spent most of the day travelling to Perth and finally got through the doors of the airport at 11.15pm. Outside I was delighted to see this Xmas kangaroo.

Day 324 of 365 Day Challenge

Tomorrow (Sunday) is voting day here in Hong Kong. On and off for the past two weeks or so, we have seen the candidates out on the street. And I mean out on the street. The first time we saw Joseph Chan, we were in a taxi going up the hill to where we live and there was this lone figure standing on a corner next to a billboard of himself waving at the cars going by. We were quite surprised and quite amused. Not something we had seen before but as the days went by he would pop up in different places with a fixed smile on his face, a shash over his shoulder waving at the passers by. Occasionally we would also see his opposition. This seems to be the norm here or I think it is. Tonight he was out with his entourage. It's not the best photo because we were in a moving taxi but definitely newsworthy. Joseph Chan is standing on the far right.

Day 323 of 365 Day Challenge

Here is a photo of one of the famous Star Ferries which takes people backwards and forwards between Hong Kong island and the mainland. It only takes about 5 minutes and costs 20p (UK currency) and you get wonderful views of the city.

Day 321 of 365 Day Challenge

Hong Kong Airport Express

I went on a bit of a photo spree today and there were loads of photos that I could have used for my daily photo but I choose one of Hong Kong's Airport Express because it's a unique facility I don't know any other country as having and it makes travelling just so much easier.

The Airport Express is in Hong Kong Central (middle of the city) but there are several check-in points on the MTR (metro) all the way to the airport and it works like this: you arrive at Central MTR and there are airport check-in desks. You need to buy your metro ticket to the airport in advance which then lets you through the barriers. You check in your luggage and that's it. It gets put on your plane. You can now make your way to the airport with only your hand luggage.

It's wonderful for people who have to vacate their rooms but still have the whole day left before they need to go to the airport. They can check in their luggage and then do all the sightseeing they want to do without having to carry their bags with them. They can then take the MTR when they want, to the airport. The same applies to businessmen. My husband will often do a day's work before he flies out on business. He takes a taxi to the Airport Express checks in his luggage and walks to work and then catches the MTR bag-free at the end of the day. None of the hassle of carrying bags around. I must mention here that there are a couple of the smaller airlines where you can't check-in from here but most of them are covered.

Another little tip here for people travelling in twos. If you buy two single one way tickets from the desk rather than the machine it's $40HK cheaper (which is the price of a cup of coffee). Not sure why.

In this photo you can see the check-in desks on the left and on the right the lifts down to the MTR.

Day 318 of 365 Day Challenge

Rushed around all day today shopping and doing chores. I've learnt by now that if any photo opportunity comes up you need to take it just in case another one doesn't come along. I saw this little chap on a step as I was passing by and quickly got a couple of shots before he scurried off but no chance to get the macro lens out. It ended up being the only shot of the day.

Day 317 of 365 Day Challenge

I went to the PMQ on Hollywood Road today because the American Women's Association were holding a bazaar to raise money for charity. Some of the stairs in the PMQ have been painted since I was last there and rather liked this one. Next is a photo of everybody buying at the bazaar and one of the current signs on the side of the building.

Day 316 of 365 Day Challenge

A trip to Stanley Market and this was one of the interesting buildings near the waterfront. It's prime real estate so wonder how much longer it will last.

Day 312 of 365 Day Challenge

We went out for breakfast this morning and passed this pile of bamboo at the side of the road which they use for scaffolding so thought it would make an interesting photo.

Day 311 of 365 Day Challenge

We went to Kau Sai Chau to play golf today. The round was really slow and it was getting dark by the time we reached the 18 green. We were surprised to see these dogs sleeping in the bunker. Hmmm, could have joined them felt so tired at the end!

Kai Sai Chau is an island and you get there on the golf club ferries from Sai Kong which is a fishing town. Here is a group of rowers in from a dragon boat style row.

Day 309 of 365 Day Challenge

Went down early to Hong Kong Park this morning. It was a dull morning so the light wasn't the best but it didn't really matter because I was concentrating on macro shots. Here are a few taken with either ProCamera or Hipstamatic and tuned in Snapseed. The first two were taken using the Olloclip macro lenses.

Day 308 of 365 Day Challenge

It's early evening and I rushed down to Hong Kong park today to get some iPhone photos before it gets dark. It's the time of the year that there is a small area where the butterflies congregate and fortunately for me one settles near the path and I manage to get a couple of shots before it flies away. Not crisp clear but not bad. It is taken with Hipstamatic and I take it back into the app and apply the Savannah lens and Louis IV film. Finally into Snapseed to add a vignette.

Tomorrow I think I must get up early and take some early morning shots.

Day 306 of 365 Day Challenge

I have been spending a bit of time 'brushing' up by iColorama skills so today and tomorrow will be manipulated selfies.
